VCDS Support Vehicle Models List:
The following VCDS Compatibility Charts are based on Model and Chassis Type. To find the Chassis Type for your car, look at the 7th and 8th digits of the VIN number. The Chassis type will usually be found in these digits. There are exceptions.
Example (Audi A6):
VIN: WAUZZZ4F36N111022
The 7th and 8th digits are 4F for Audi A6 (4F), the 10th digit is 6 which stands for Model Year (MY) 2006. See the Model information Column for Audi to find the A6 Model. Note that the Chassis Type 4F is listed under that model. Look horizontally across the VCDS Compatibility Chart until you find the Model Year 2006 and you can determine which interface(s) is required for that Chassis. In this particular case you will see that only the HEX+CAN series interface is compatible.
Please Note: Older VCDS versions may not support all of the model years listed. These charts are intended for the most current version of VCDS (in rare cases even Beta Versions).

VCDS Computer Requirements:
VCDS requires a computer running Microsoft Windows (the HEX-NET can be used with VCDS-Mobile on other platforms but that use is still in beta testing). A Laptop is most convenient but a desktop PC can also be used.
We recommend a PC running Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 with at least 2GB of RAM (single-core Atom-class processors are no longer recommended). Screen resolution of at least 800600 is recommended.

MPC-HC is now able to play URLs from Youtube and several other video websites.
This functionality requires youtube-dl.exe which you need to download yourself. Place that file in your Windows folder (usually c:Windows) to make it available for use by MPC-HC.
You can configure the quality (or more precisely the maximum video resolution) that is used by youtube-dl in MPC-HC settings (Options Advanced YDLMaxHeight). For example 1080 for FullHD video. Hardware acceleration is now enabled by default on systems where the primary GPU supports HEVC video. You can adjust these settings if desired, like with all settings in the codec pack. It is currently only enabled by default on compatible Intel and Nvidia systems. For AMD systems this will be done in a future version when their drivers are more reliable. It is also not enabled by default on systems that provide only hybrid acceleration. But you can of course enable it manually during (or after) installation. In previous versions of the codec pack hardware acceleration was always disabled by default. So for most users, nothing changes.

LAV Audio decoder now supports decoding DTS-HD Master Audio (up to 7.1 / 96 kHz / 24-bit). Previously it could only decode the embedded DTS core.
The default audio decoder has been changed from ffdshow to LAV.
The installer now has four installation modes (Simple/Normal/Advanced/Expert) which differ in the amount of options shown during installation. In the new default mode (Normal) less options are shown than in previous versions. To get the same amount of options as in previous versions, you have to select the Advanced mode.
The installer now provides options to specify your preferred audio and video player. The installation is optimized based on your choices.
In Simple and Normal install mode, the installer will now automatically create file associations for your preferred players. In Advanced and Expert mode, file associations are pre-configured, but can be adjusted as desired. There is an option to turn off this automatic behavior.
The installer now provides easy options to specify your preferred audio/video decoders and splitter.

VCDS Support Vehicle Models List:
The following VCDS Compatibility Charts are based on Model and Chassis Type. To find the Chassis Type for your car, look at the 7th and 8th digits of the VIN number. The Chassis type will usually be found in these digits. There are exceptions.
Example (Audi A6):
VIN: WAUZZZ4F36N111022
The 7th and 8th digits are 4F for Audi A6 (4F), the 10th digit is 6 which stands for Model Year (MY) 2006. See the Model information Column for Audi to find the A6 Model. Note that the Chassis Type 4F is listed under that model. Look horizontally across the VCDS Compatibility Chart until you find the Model Year 2006 and you can determine which interface(s) is required for that Chassis. In this particular case you will see that only the HEX+CAN series interface is compatible.
Please Note: Older VCDS versions may not support all of the model years listed. These charts are intended for the most current version of VCDS (in rare cases even Beta Versions).

VCDS Computer Requirements:
VCDS requires a computer running Microsoft Windows (the HEX-NET can be used with VCDS-Mobile on other platforms but that use is still in beta testing). A Laptop is most convenient but a desktop PC can also be used.
We recommend a PC running Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 with at least 2GB of RAM (single-core Atom-class processors are no longer recommended). Screen resolution of at least 800600 is recommended.

MPC-HC is now able to play URLs from Youtube and several other video websites.
This functionality requires youtube-dl.exe which you need to download yourself. Place that file in your Windows folder (usually c:Windows) to make it available for use by MPC-HC.
You can configure the quality (or more precisely the maximum video resolution) that is used by youtube-dl in MPC-HC settings (Options Advanced YDLMaxHeight). For example 1080 for FullHD video. Hardware acceleration is now enabled by default on systems where the primary GPU supports HEVC video. You can adjust these settings if desired, like with all settings in the codec pack. It is currently only enabled by default on compatible Intel and Nvidia systems. For AMD systems this will be done in a future version when their drivers are more reliable. It is also not enabled by default on systems that provide only hybrid acceleration. But you can of course enable it manually during (or after) installation. In previous versions of the codec pack hardware acceleration was always disabled by default. So for most users, nothing changes.

LAV Audio decoder now supports decoding DTS-HD Master Audio (up to 7.1 / 96 kHz / 24-bit). Previously it could only decode the embedded DTS core.
The default audio decoder has been changed from ffdshow to LAV.
The installer now has four installation modes (Simple/Normal/Advanced/Expert) which differ in the amount of options shown during installation. In the new default mode (Normal) less options are shown than in previous versions. To get the same amount of options as in previous versions, you have to select the Advanced mode.
The installer now provides options to specify your preferred audio and video player. The installation is optimized based on your choices.
In Simple and Normal install mode, the installer will now automatically create file associations for your preferred players. In Advanced and Expert mode, file associations are pre-configured, but can be adjusted as desired. There is an option to turn off this automatic behavior.
